Volvo EX60: Official details on 810 km range and new SPA3 platform
Volvo EX60: The SUV that rewrites the rules of autonomy. 810 km on a single charge
The Swedes at Volvo are preparing to strike a decisive blow in the premium electric vehicle market. The upcoming Volvo EX60, the electric counterpart of the extremely popular XC60, is not just another SUV in the range, but the model that promises to permanently eliminate “range anxiety”. With figures that seem to come from the future, the EX60 is ready for the big launch scheduled for January 21, 2026.
The SPA3 revolution: Record autonomy and ultra-fast charging
The centerpiece of the new EX60 is the SPA3 platform, a state-of-the-art technological architecture that allows superior performance to current models (such as the EX90). The detail that has amazed the industry is the promised autonomy: 810 kilometers (WLTP). This is the greatest autonomy ever offered by a Volvo, significantly exceeding the current flagship, the EX90.
But the innovation doesn’t stop at the battery. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the EX60 will be able to draw power from ultra-fast charging stations with up to 400 kW of power. The result? A 10-minute stop at the charging station will be enough to add 340 kilometers of range.
“Mega Casting” manufacturing technology
Volvo is moving to a revolutionary production process called mega casting. Instead of assembling hundreds of small parts for the car’s rear structure, the manufacturer will use a single, massive, high-precision cast part.
This method:
- Reduces the overall weight of the vehicle.
- Increases structural rigidity and safety.
- Optimizes interior space for passengers.
At the same time, cell-to-body technology allows the battery cells to be integrated directly into the chassis structure, making the most of the space.
Volvo Electric Range in Romania and Competition
Currently, Volvo has a solid presence on the Romanian market, offering a diverse range of electric SUVs covering almost all segments:
| Model | Segment | Starting Price (RO Est.) | Range (WLTP) |
| EX30 | Compact SUV | ~€38,500 | Up to 476 km |
| EX40 | Urban SUV | ~€55,300 | Up to 572 km |
| EC40 | Crossover Coupe | ~€57,000 | Up to 580 km |
| EX90 | Luxury SUV (7-seater) | ~€97,450 | Up to 600 km |
| EX60 | Mid-size Premium SUV | ~€65,000 - €75,000* | 810 km |
How does the EX60 compare to its rivals?
The mid-size electric SUV segment is the most contested. The EX60 will have to compete with established models, but its 810 km range gives it a huge competitive advantage:
- Tesla Model Y: The sales leader offers a maximum range of 600 km (Long Range).
- Audi Q6 e-tron: A very strong direct rival, with a similar 800V architecture, but with a range that stops at around 625 km.
- BMW iX3: It is going to be refreshed on the “Neue Klasse” platform, but Volvo seems to have taken the lead in terms of energy efficiency.
How much will the new Volvo EX60 cost?
Although official prices will be announced on January 21, analyzing Volvo's current pricing structure in Romania, we can expect the Volvo EX60 to start at around 68,000 - 72,000 Euros for the large battery version. The top versions, with all-wheel drive and “Ultra” features, could exceed the 85,000 Euro threshold.
The first units are expected to reach customers in Romania in the second half of 2026, with production starting at the Gothenburg plant next spring.
