Volkswagen Multivan Facelift: 40 years of history wears new clothes and matte finishes
After a record 2025, in which sales exploded by over 30%, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles decides to increase. The Hanover-based manufacturer has published the first official image of the Multivan facelift, setting the stage for a summer full of new products.
The Volkswagen Multivan is not just a vehicle; it is an institution on wheels that is already in its fourth decade of existence. Having reached maturity, the model seems to ignore the downward trends of the MPV segment, reporting impressive figures: in 2025, deliveries increased by 31%, reaching the threshold of 38,700 units. In this context of commercial success, the Germans decided that it was the ideal time for an aesthetic and technological refresh.
A new face for the segment's "king"
The first official image reveals a meticulous approach to detail. While the iconic silhouette remains unchanged, the front end has received a well-deserved dose of freshness:
- Front spoiler: It has been redesigned to provide a more robust presence and optimized aerodynamics.
- Radiator grille: Features a revised texture, integrating more fluidly into the brand's new design language.
- Light signature: The LED headlights have been modernized, now offering a more complex interior design and a distinct visual identity at night.
First in the color palette: Matte finish
While matte finishes were previously reserved for sports models or limited edition luxury models, Volkswagen is now bringing this aesthetic to the multi-purpose vehicle segment. For the first time in the model's history, customers will be able to opt for a matte paint finish, giving the van a contemporary and sophisticated look.
For those who prefer a classic yet bold style, the two-tone offer has been expanded with three new variants. The star of the collection seems to be the combination of Candy White and Brown Grey, a choice that underlines the premium character of the current generation.
Attention to detail: From rims to the near future
The “footwear” chapter has not been neglected either. Volkswagen has announced the revision of six wheel designs for the 17 and 18 inch sizes. Furthermore, the famous 19 inch Halmstad wheels, a favorite of design enthusiasts, have also undergone a restyling process to match the new image of the facelift.
"The success enjoyed by the current generation forces us to constantly innovate. The Multivan remains the benchmark for versatility, and this facelift brings exactly that touch of freshness needed to keep the model at the top of preferences," German officials seem to be conveying through these first changes.
While the leaked image gives us a glimpse of the exterior, the surprises don't stop there. The German automaker has promised that the full list of changes — which could include updates to the interior and assistance systems — will be revealed gradually by the end of the summer.
