Mercedes-Benz launches the new EQS 2027: 800V architecture and record range of 926 km

Mercedes-Benz EQS 2027: The Electric “King” Returns with 800 Volts and Spaceship Steering

Stuttgart, 2026 – Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the bravest chapter in its recent electric history: the new EQS 2027. It is not just an aesthetic facelift, but a total recalibration of what technological luxury means, designed to answer critics and reclaim the throne of the premium EV segment.

With a range that reaches the psychological threshold of 926 km and an 800V architecture, the new EQS promises to turn "range anxiety" into a mere memory of the beginnings of the electric era.

1. The revolution under the hood: 800 Volt Architecture

The biggest technical change is the move from a 400V system to a modern 800-volt architecture. This move aligns the EQS with the leaders in charging performance, now allowing speeds of up to 350 kW at DC fast-charge stations.

  • Record speed: A coffee break of just 10 minutes now adds 320 kilometers of range.
  • "Giant" batteries: Customers can choose between the new 112 kWh packs (for the EQS 400 version) or the massive 122 kWh (for the 450+, 500 and 580 4Matic).
  • Efficiency: Thanks to new cell chemistry and an optimized drive unit (e-axle), the EQS 450+ variant sets a new standard with a range of 926 km (WLTP).

2. Steer-by-Wire: Goodbye, steering column!

The new EQS 2027 is the brand's first series model to introduce Steer-by-Wire technology.

The system eliminates the physical mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels, using high-precision sensors and actuators instead. The result? A yoke-style steering wheel that offers increased visibility of the dashboard and incredible maneuverability at low speeds (with a full rotation of just 270 degrees), while becoming much stiffer and more precise at highway speeds for ultimate stability.

"This is the first time a German manufacturer has bet everything on electronic steering, offering a driving experience that feels closer to aviation than classic motoring."

3. Design: The return of the "Star" on the hood

After the first EQS versions were criticized for a too "rounded" design, Mercedes-Benz listened to the voice of purists.

  • Iconic grille: The new model brings back the vertical star on the bonnet, a traditional symbol of Mercedes luxury.
  • Intelligent Lighting: The front grille is now an animated, fully illuminated panel that integrates the famous three-dimensional "stars".
  • Digital Light: Micro-LED headlights are capable of projecting warning signs directly onto the roadway, assisting the driver in low visibility conditions.

4. MB.OS: The Artificial Brain in the Cabin

The interior remains dominated by the spectacular 55-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, but the absolute novelty is the proprietary operating system, MB.OS.

It integrates generative Artificial Intelligence, capable of learning the driver's routines. Do you have a spa visit scheduled? The car will pre-heat the cabin, activate the massage seats and even activate the new heated seat belts automatically when the outside temperature drops below a certain threshold.

Technical Specifications in Brief

Model Battery (Net) Power Range (WLTP)
EQS 400 112 kWh 362 hp ~750 km
EQS 450+ 122 kWh 335 hp 926 km
EQS 580 4Matic 122 kWh 577 hp ~800 km

5. Price and Availability

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS 2027 has already been launched in Germany, where the starting price is 94,403 euros for the basic version. In Romania, orders are expected to open in the second half of the year, with prices estimated to be slightly higher due to more generous standard equipment for the local market.

With this major facelift, Mercedes-Benz has not only corrected the weaknesses of the previous model, but has also set a technological bar that the competition will have to struggle to reach.

Do you think that yoke steering will be adopted by all luxury manufacturers or will it remain an exotic feature only for technology enthusiasts?
