Volkswagen officially launches the new ID. Tiguan 2027, the electric SUV with a range of up to 600 km

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan 2027, Estimated prices in Romania, technical data and WLTP autonomy

Volkswagen marks a milestone in its electrification strategy with the official presentation of the new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan. Conceived as the spiritual and direct successor to the ID.4 and ID.5 models, the new electric SUV brings a profound evolution at the stylistic, technological and structural levels, aiming to become a benchmark in the compact mid-class segment.

Exterior design: New “True Volkswagen” visual language and top aerodynamics

The new ID. Tiguan abandons the strongly rounded shapes of the previous generation, adopting the new True Volkswagen design language. The front is marked by well-defined horizontal lines and an architecture called Aquarium, which seamlessly integrates the optical blocks.

  • Distinctive light signature: Depending on the equipment, the Volkswagen logo at the front is illuminated and flanked by a thin LED strip. The optional IQ.LIGHT headlights add three additional light elements, providing an imposing presence on the road.
  • Generous dimensions: The model measures 4,618 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and 1,619 mm in height. The 2,765 mm wheelbase exceeds the Tiguan's combustion engine version by 84 mm, ensuring a superior interior space.
  • Optimized aerodynamics: Thanks to optimizations made to the body, the aerodynamic coefficient (Cd) has been reduced to 0.26, improving energy efficiency.
  • Color palette: 7 exterior shades are available at launch, including Marble Grey, Olive Bronze Metallic, Glacier White Metallic, Jeans Blue Metallic, Pomegranate Red Metallic, Scale Silver Metallic and Grenadille Black Metallic.

Various equipment, with emphasis on the sporty top R-Line

The range of the new electric SUV is structured in four equipment levels: Trend, Life, Style and the top-of-the-line R-Line version.

The R-Line equipment brings a distinctly sporty aesthetic package:

  • Aggressive front bumper with enlarged air intakes finished in gloss black.
  • Aviation-inspired aerodynamic elements (winglets) integrated with LED lights.
  • "R" logo discreetly integrated into the front surface.
  • Rear aerodynamic diffuser and rims ranging in size from 19 to 21 inches.

Digitalized interior: First-ever passenger screen and Retro displays

The interior of the new ID. Tiguan relies on a superior perceived quality, integrating recycled textile materials and an ambient lighting system with 30 shades.

  • Digital innovation – Passenger display: In an absolute first for a Volkswagen production model, the right-hand passenger can optionally benefit from a dedicated 12-inch display, equipped with a privacy function that blocks visibility for the driver while driving.
  • Driving position: Standard equipment includes a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a generous 15-inch central multimedia screen, complemented by an augmented reality Head-Up Display (optional). Physical climate control buttons have been retained below the central screen.
  • Retro Mode: The digital instrument cluster offers a "Retro" display inspired by the analog dials of legendary models from the past, such as the Golf 1, Golf 2 Country, Golf 4, Tiguan 1, Race Touareg and Beetle.
  • Comfort and space: The center console features two ventilated wireless charging areas, and the trunk offers a capacity of 534 liters, which can increase to 1,577 liters by folding the seatback.

Engines and dynamic performance

To meet all requirements, the new ID. Tiguan debuts with three different drive system configurations:

  1. Base version (RWD): 190 hp electric motor on the rear axle; 0–100 km/h acceleration in 8.5 seconds and top speed of 160 km/h.
  2. Intermediate version (RWD): 286 hp electric motor on the rear axle; acceleration 0–100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and top speed 180 km/h.
  3. Top version (AWD): System with two electric motors and all-wheel drive, totaling 299 HP; acceleration 0–100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and top speed of 180 km/h.

Batteries, range of up to 600 km and charging efficiency

The customer has two battery options available, adapted to mobility needs:

  • 58 kWh battery (LFP chemistry): Available exclusively for the base 190 PS version, it provides a range of up to 450 kilometres in the WLTP cycle. Supports DC fast charging of up to 105 kW (10–80% in 26 minutes).
  • 77 kWh battery (NMC chemistry): Available for 286 PS and 299 PS versions. Offers a range of up to 600 kilometres (for the 286 PS RWD model) or 560 kilometres (for the 299 PS AWD version). Maximum DC charging power rises to 165 kW, with a 10–80% charge time of 29 minutes.

Availability and estimated prices for the Romanian market

In terms of production, the new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will be assembled in Germany, at the Emden plant, a strategic industrial center for the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer's electric vehicle division.

So far, Volkswagen has not published official price lists for the new model on the Romanian market, with the commercial launch to be detailed in the coming period, once orders are officially opened at the European level.

Given its positioning as a direct successor to the ID.4 and ID.5 models, as well as the superior level of integrated technologies, the estimated prices for the Romanian market are expected to be within the margins of the compact/mid-volume electric SUV segment:

  1. Base version (ID. Tiguan 190 HP, 58 kWh battery): Estimated prices starting from approximately 43,000 – 45,000 euros (VAT included).
  2. Versions with extended range and superior equipment (Style / R-Line, 77 kWh battery): Estimated prices between 49,000 and 58,000 euros (VAT included), depending on the configuration level and optional packages chosen (such as the passenger screen or IQ.LIGHT headlights).

Purchase values can be optimized through national electric mobility incentive programs, such as the Rabla Plus program.
