A first in the Škoda range, the Octavia model debuts with a 1.5 TSI series-parallel full hybrid system

Historic premiere for Skoda's best-selling model: Octavia receives the first full hybrid engine without plug-in charging

The Skoda Octavia, arguably the most successful model in the Mladá Boleslav-based manufacturer's portfolio, is undergoing a technological turning point. The Czech model becomes the first car in the brand's range to adopt a full-hybrid engine, i.e. an electrified propulsion system that recharges its battery autonomously while driving and does not require connection to a socket or charging station.

The new propulsion option will be available in parallel on both body variants — hatchback and Combi — being reserved for the higher Selection and Sportline trim levels.

Efficient technical architecture: 1.5 TSI evo2 engine, two electric units and single-speed gearbox

The new hybrid system is based on the 1.5-litre TSI evo2 petrol engine, renowned for its thermal efficiency. The system is complemented by two electric motors: a traction unit responsible for moving the vehicle and a second electric motor with a dedicated generator role for energy management.

The electric energy is stored in a compact 1.6 kWh battery, strategically placed under the rear seat to optimise the centre of gravity. In pure electric driving mode, the traction motor drives the front wheels up to speeds of 60 km/h, while also taking over the load when the driver requires maximum acceleration resources.

The powertrain sends power to the front axle via a single-speed automatic transmission. This modern technical configuration is shared within the group with volume models such as the Volkswagen Golf and T-Roc.

Reconfiguring the rear axle to accommodate the 1.6 kWh battery and 40-liter fuel tank has slightly adjusted the boot's loading volumes, which still remain at high standards of practicality:

  • Octavia Hatchback: capacity between 460 and 1,400 liters (with the rear seat folded).
  • Octavia Combi: capacity between 485 and 1,540 liters.

Two power options: 135 hp and 170 hp

The Skoda Octavia Full Hybrid will be sold in two distinct power versions, adapted both for daily urban use and for long journeys on long roads:

  • 135 HP variant: designed for minimal fuel consumption and low operating costs.
  • 170 HP variant: intended for those who want a more dynamic response and superior power reserves.

Regardless of the power level chosen, the top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

The standard equipment for models equipped with the full hybrid engine is particularly generous. Inside, the car benefits from the 13-inch central touchscreen for the multimedia system and the 10-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster. On the outside, the electrified versions are discreetly differentiated by the dedicated Hybrid emblem located on the tailgate.

Availability and estimated prices on the Romanian market

The official order lists for the new Skoda Octavia Full Hybrid will open on the Romanian market in October 2026, with the first units to be delivered to customers in December 2026.

Compared to the positioning in the current Octavia range (between the 1.5-liter Mild-Hybrid versions and the Plug-in Hybrid variants) and the Selection / Sportline equipment levels, the estimated starting prices for the local market are as follows:

  1. Skoda Octavia Hatchback 1.5 TSI Full Hybrid 135 HP (Selection): from approx. 29,500 – 31,000 euros (VAT included).
  2. Skoda Octavia Hatchback 1.5 TSI Full Hybrid 170 HP (Selection / Sportline): from approx. 32,500 – 35,000 euros (VAT included).
  3. Skoda Octavia, Combi body: an addition of approximately 1,200 - 1,500 euros compared to the hatchback version.

The adoption of full hybrid technology without plug-in recharging allows Romanian customers to access eco-bonuses granted through national fleet renewal programs, reducing the final purchase price below the threshold of 28,000 euros for the entry-level version.
