How much will the new Smart #2 cost in Romania, Prices from 19,990 euros for the successor to the ForTwo
After a two-year hiatus that left a significant void in the ultra-small urban segment, the legendary city concept is back in action. At the Paris Motor Show, the German brand officially presented the new Smart #2, the spiritual and direct successor to the much-loved ForTwo. Designed exclusively as an electric vehicle, the new model promises to redefine everyday mobility through extreme agility and cutting-edge technologies.
Exterior design and extreme urban agility
The new Smart #2 takes over the recipe for success of its predecessor, retaining the ultra-compact proportions that made it famous, but adopting a modern and expressive stylistic language.
- Dimensions and footprint: The model is only 2,746 millimeters long, designed to fit into the narrowest parking spaces. The wheels are pushed to the extremes to maximize interior space and ensure dynamic behavior.
- Turning circle: With a turning radius of only 6.95 meters (curb-to-curb), the car offers surgical maneuverability on busy streets.
- Practical solutions: An emblematic element retained and improved is the split-opening tailgate. The rear window can be raised separately, while the lower section can be lowered and used as a stationary bench seat, supporting a weight of up to 120 kilograms.
- Safety structure: Passive safety is guaranteed by the new dedicated Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform and the Tridion Cell Evo strength structure.
Minimalist interior, equipment and the special Couture Edition
The cabin adopts a minimalist philosophy, structured in fluid shapes, emphasizing the comfort of the two occupants.
- Configuration and functionality: The interior features a shared two-seater bench seat with a central armrest that integrates a storage space and a cup holder. The dashboard houses an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver and a generous central touchscreen.
- Equipment levels: The European range is structured in three main standard equipment variants: Pure, Pure+ and Premium. The higher-end equipment brings features such as a panoramic glass roof, heated seats and a premium 7-speaker Sennheiser audio system.
- Special launch edition: To mark the debut, Smart is offering a limited edition globally called the Couture Edition (of the total of 1,998 units produced, half of which are destined for Europe). It is distinguished by its matte Atelier White paint, Platinum gold accents and exclusive 16-inch wheels.
Propulsion system, battery and 290 kilometer range
Developed on the new dedicated electrical architecture, Smart #2 relies on pure efficiency in the urban environment:
- Powertrain and drive: The electric unit located on the rear axle develops 82 horsepower (60 kW) and an instant torque of 130 Nm, ensuring agile rear-wheel drive. The rear suspension uses an advanced five-link system, an absolute first for this vehicle class.
- Battery and range: The LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery has a capacity of 35.8 kWh and offers a maximum range of up to 290 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.
- Fast charging: The system supports DC fast charging at powers up to 65 kW, allowing the battery level to be restored from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
- Assistance systems: The standard package includes advanced features such as Smart Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and highway driving assistant.
Availability and estimated prices for the Romanian market
Smart has already opened the pre-order session in major European markets immediately after the premiere in Paris, with official deliveries set to begin in 2027.
- Starting prices in Europe: In Western European markets (such as Germany, France or Italy), the starting price for the basic Pure equipment has been set at 19,990 euros, an extremely competitive figure for the compact electric vehicle segment.
- Estimates for Romania: In the local distribution network, the new Smart #2 is expected to appear in the first part of 2027. Estimated prices for the Romanian market will align with the European reference level, starting from approximately 19,990 - 21,000 euros (VAT included) for the basic version, while higher equipment (Premium or the limited edition Couture Edition) will rise to the threshold of 24,000 - 26,000 euros. The final purchase cost can be considerably reduced by accessing funds from the national Rabla Plus electric car purchase incentive program.
