Porsche introduces new generation of PCM for 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne
The Stuttgart-based German manufacturer is announcing a major transformation in terms of connectivity and on-board technology, introducing a new generation of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. Designed to bring a higher level of performance and a unified interface, the new platform integrates a revolutionary hardware architecture, the advanced Porsche Digital Interaction concept and an extensive digital ecosystem that will equip the brand’s top ranges.
Advanced hardware architecture: 5x more processing power
At the heart of the new changes is a completely redesigned hardware platform, built around a modern system-on-chip (SoC) architecture. This technical evolution brings a spectacular increase in computing resources.
- Doubled performance: The new architecture offers up to 5 times more processing power compared to the previous generation.
- Fluency and multitasking: Users benefit from much faster system startup, significantly reduced loading times, and fluid operation, allowing multiple applications to run simultaneously while remaining active in the background.
- Over-the-Air (OTA) Updates: The platform ensures the long-term technical basis, allowing for continuous software optimization and the addition of new functionalities even after vehicle delivery through update packages downloaded directly to the car.
Porsche Digital Interaction: Intuitive interaction and advanced personalization
With this generation, the design and digital control philosophy debuted on the new generation electric models is extended to a wide segment of vehicles, including the 911, Taycan, Panamera, as well as the Cayenne versions with thermal and hybrid engines.
- Interactive 3D Model: The centerpiece of the interface is a highly detailed 3D virtual representation of the car. This can be freely rotated on the screen and is displayed in real body color, providing direct and highly intuitive access to vehicle settings and functions.
- Flexible customization: The digital cockpit can be configured via five selectable themes and a comprehensive set of modular widgets, allowing each driver to tailor the interface to their personal preferences.
Intelligent navigation and voice assistant based on artificial intelligence
Navigation and voice interaction capabilities are getting a major technological boost, transforming every journey into a connected and easy experience.
- Navigation Plus: Uses state-of-the-art mapping with advanced 3D representation, complemented by online data and real-time traffic information. For fully electric models, the Charging Planner function efficiently manages charging stops, automatically integrating battery thermal preconditioning.
- Voice Pilot with artificial intelligence: The new voice assistant uses a large-scale language model (LLM), capable of understanding complex natural language. The system can process multi-step requests, follow-up questions and directly control navigation, vehicle functions, the multimedia system and installed applications.
Expanded digital ecosystem and Dolby Atmos audiophile experience
Onboard entertainment reaches new heights through the integration of top digital services and sound systems dedicated to music enthusiasts.
- Porsche App Center: Allows direct download of apps into the car, including for the first time native integration of the Apple Music service.
- Reference spatial sound: Combined with the high-performance audio systems signed by Bose® and Burmester® 3D High-End Surround Sound, support for Dolby Atmos® technology provides an immersive, concert-level acoustic experience directly in the cabin.
Market availability
The new generation of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) multimedia system and the Porsche Digitalinteraction package will be gradually introduced on all newly produced models in the 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne ranges, with actual availability to be adapted depending on the production schedule and the specifics of each market.
