Electric revolution at Opel: New Corsa GSE becomes the fastest production model in the brand's history
Opel has today revealed the first official images of the new Corsa GSE, the flagship of its electric performance vehicle range. At a time when the traditional hot hatch segment seems to be losing ground, the Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer is betting everything on “electrons”, transforming the popular small class model into a true urban athlete.
The official public debut will take place in October, under the spotlights of the Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l'Auto), but the technical details already published confirm that we are dealing with a car that rewrites the speed standards of the German brand.
Design with attitude by Hot Hatch
Aesthetically, the new Opel Corsa GSE makes no attempt to hide its ambitions. The front end adopts the new Opel Vizor design language, but with an aggressive touch: oversized air intakes and glossy black trim. The look is completed by a contrasting roof and a rear spoiler finished in the same shade of black, elements that emphasize the low, sporty silhouette.
The most striking exterior feature, however, is the set of 18-inch three-spoke wheels, a subtle nod to the iconic rims of Opel performance models from the 1990s. Behind them are the yellow calipers of a high-performance braking system by Alcon.
Sporty interior: Alcantara and yellow accents
Inside, the atmosphere is dominated by a mix of luxury and sportiness:
- GSE Performance seats: Sport seats with integrated headrest, checkered upholstery (a homage to the past) and Alcantara inserts.
- Visual details: Yellow seat belts and aluminum pedals.
- Technology: Digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch central screen, both with GSE-specific graphics, providing information on G-forces and battery management.
Performance: 281 hp and a Torsen differential
Under the hood, the Corsa GSE hides a single electric motor mounted on the front axle, capable of delivering an impressive 281 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque. These figures propel the small hatchback from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, making it the fastest production model ever produced by Opel.
To keep this power under control, German engineers equipped the car with:
- Torsen limited-slip front differential for optimal traction when cornering.
- Hydraulic shock absorbers specially calibrated to reduce roll.
- Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (215/40 R18), providing direct feedback in the optimized GSE steering.
The three driving modes allow you to adapt the car's character:
- Normal: Power limited to 231 hp for daily use.
- Sport: Unlocks all 281 hp and optimizes pedal response.
- Eco: Limits speed to 150 km/h for maximum efficiency.
V2L Innovation: The new model is equipped with a bidirectional charger (Vehicle-to-Load), allowing users to power external devices (laptops, electric bicycles or even electric grills) directly from the car battery.
Battery, Autonomy and Price in Romania
The new Opel Corsa GSE uses a lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 51 kWh (54 kWh gross). Although the official WLTP range will be announced in Paris, estimates indicate around 340 - 350 kilometers on a single charge.
Availability and Price:
In Romania, the first units are expected to arrive in showrooms in early 2027, although pre-order lists will most likely open immediately after the October 2026 debut.
As for the price, although there is no official figure for the local market yet, analysts estimate that the new Opel Corsa GSE will start at around 42,000 - 45,000 euros (VAT included). Through the Rabla Plus program, the purchase price could drop considerably, positioning the model as a direct rival for the Alpine A290 or the upcoming Peugeot e-208 GTI.
