The Electric Revolution from Affalterbach: The New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé Breaks the Barriers with Up to 1,169 HP

Affalterbach, Germany – In a historic turning point for the high-performance automotive industry, Mercedes-AMG has officially presented the new generation of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé. This is not just an update, but a radical reinvention: the legendary track monster completely abandons thermal propulsion in favor of an exclusively electric system. With a completely new design and top-notch engineering that delivers up to 1,169 horsepower, the German manufacturer proves that the era of electromobility can be just as wild and exciting as that of V8 engines.

Fluid design inspired by the AMG GT XX concept and extreme aerodynamics

The newest member of the AMG family offers a completely different design language to the rest of the current range. The body of the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé adopts an extremely fluid, organic and wind-sculpted shape, whose aesthetic lines were directly inspired by the experimental AMG GT XX concept, presented to the public last year.

The front end exudes aggression with a fully covered and subtly illuminated grille, above which are placed LED optical blocks with a unique light signature, which graphically integrates the shape of the famous Mercedes-Benz logo. For an imposing stage presence at night, the headlights are united by a continuous LED strip that crosses the hood. The rear of the car takes on an equally dramatic and futuristic look, being defined by three individual taillights on each side, backlit by another minimalist LED strip.

In the case of a performance hyper-EV, air management is crucial. The car integrates a series of active aerodynamic elements cleverly hidden under the body, capable of modifying the airflow according to speed to optimize downforce. Thanks to these technologies and the teardrop shape of the roof, the new model achieves an enviable aerodynamic coefficient of just 0.22 units. The exterior package is visually completed by massive rims, with sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches, also developed for aerodynamic purposes.

Interior dominated by screens and the “AMG Race Engineer” control unit

Inside, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé transforms the on-board experience into a true digital command center, where luxurious materials combine with cutting-edge technology. The dashboard is practically a huge glass surface, dominated by three main screens:

  • A 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster fully configurable for the driver.
  • A 14-inch central touchscreen for the multimedia system.
  • A screen dedicated to the front passenger, also with a 14-inch diagonal, for entertainment and monitoring road performance.

The big ergonomic novelty, however, is on the center console, where the German engineers have installed three physical rotary controls that are part of the AMG Race Engineer system. Strategically oriented towards the driver to be operated without distracting attention from the road, they allow for instant adjustment of essential parameters: acceleration response, driving modes, traction control system grip level and dynamic cornering behavior.

The console also houses an induction charging system capable of powering two phones simultaneously and two ambient-lit cup holders. The anatomical sports seats and door panels are upholstered in premium leather, while carbon fiber inserts on the dashboard emphasize the car's exclusive character.

Another spectacular technological first is the new Sky Control panoramic glass roof. It integrates a fine matrix of LED lights that display the AMG logo directly into its structure and, at the touch of a button, can change its state from completely transparent to opaque. Despite the coupé silhouette, practicality has not been forgotten, with the luggage compartment offering a generous volume of 507 liters.

Titanic power: Axial flow motors up to 1,169 hp

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé will be available at launch in two devastatingly powerful versions, both equipped with three revolutionary axial-flow electric motors (an advanced technology that offers a much higher power density than conventional electric motors):

  1. AMG GT 55 4MATIC+: The entry-level version delivers a colossal 816 horsepower and an instant torque of 1,800 Nm. This powerhouse allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds. Top speed is 300 km/h (when the optional Drivers Package is selected).
  2. AMG GT 63 4MATIC+: The absolute top of the range unleashes no less than 1,169 horsepower and a stratospheric torque of 2,000 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h plummets to an incredible 2.4 seconds, while the top speed is also electronically limited to 300 km/h.

700 km range and ultra-fast charging at 600 kW

Both versions are powered by a massive battery pack with a capacity of 106 kWh, which provides a maximum range of up to 700 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle.

Thanks to an advanced electrical architecture, the new model supports a record charging power of up to 600 kW at compatible direct current (DC) stations. In practical terms, just a 10-minute stop at such a station is enough to pump energy into the battery for a range of 460 kilometers, almost completely eliminating the anxiety associated with long journeys.

V8 nostalgia, replicated through AMGFORCE Sport+ mode

In order not to lose the emotional connection with the brand's traditional fans, AMG has developed the special AMGFORCE Sport+ driving mode. Once activated, the intelligent system generates a complex soundtrack that imitates the rumble and visceral frequencies of a V8 petrol engine. The sound is perfectly correlated with the load of the electric motors and the acceleration, being played with intensity both inside the cabin and outside via dedicated actuators.

In addition to this extreme acoustic mode, the driver has the classic driving settings: Comfort, Sport, Race, Slippery and Individual. In addition, reflecting the new efficiency philosophy, the new model receives for the first time in the history of the Mercedes-AMG division a dedicated Eco driving mode, designed to squeeze every available kilowatt to cover maximum distances.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé is not just a simple electric luxury car; it is clear proof that the engineers in Affalterbach have successfully transferred the pure DNA of track performance into the electronic age.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICE IN ROMANIA

Although the Affalterbach-based manufacturer maintained complete discretion during the official launch regarding the exact figures in the price lists, we can outline a fairly clear picture of how the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé will position itself on the Romanian market.

Given that the start of series production is scheduled for July 2026 in the German plant in Sindelfingen, the official importer Mercedes-Benz Romania is expected to open the pre-order system in the national network of authorized dealers during the summer of this year. For Romanian customers who will want to be among the first owners of this hyper-EV, actual deliveries and the first examples to run on local roads are estimated for the end of the fourth quarter of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.

In terms of financial terms, the cutting-edge technology derived from Formula 1 and the exclusivity of YASA axial flow engines will place this model in the stratosphere of automotive prices:

  • AMG GT 55 4MATIC+ (816 HP) estimate: The base variant is estimated to start in Romania at a list price of approximately 195,000 - 210,000 euros (VAT included), ranking just above the current AMG EQS 53.
  • AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ (1,169 hp) estimate: For the absolute top of the range, the starting price will break barriers, estimated at around 255,000 - 270,000 euros. A generous list of options - including the innovative Sky Control roof, the Drivers Package performance package and 21-inch aerodynamic wheels - will propel the final price beyond the psychological threshold of 310,000 euros.

Through this pricing strategy, the new Mercedes-AMG GT Electric not only becomes one of the most expensive and exclusive electric cars in Romania, but also enters a fierce battle with the top versions of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the most exclusive hyper-sedans of the moment.
