History is written in “Papaya Orange”: New McLaren Artura 1000GP special edition celebrates a legendary milestone in Formula 1
MONTE CARLO – Few names resonate in the world of motorsport with the same intensity as McLaren. This weekend, at the legendary Monaco Grand Prix, the British manufacturer marks an absolutely impressive historical milestone: participating in its 1,000th Formula 1 Grand Prix. To put this achievement in perspective, McLaren becomes only the second team in the entire history of the competition – after Ferrari – to reach this astronomical threshold.
The celebration began on the track, where the racing division presented spectacular special graphics for the MCL40 single-seaters, driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. But the tribute did not stop at the starting grid. The brand's road car division decided to transfer this genetic heritage directly to the road, launching an ultra-exclusive edition for one of its most advanced models: the McLaren Artura 1000GP.
MSO Art: Circuit DNA Transposed to the Road
To make this model truly memorable, the project was entrusted to specialists from MSO (McLaren Special Operations), the brand's customization division, renowned for transforming production cars into true works of art on wheels.
The exterior of the new Artura 1000GP takes visual cues directly from the MCL40 Formula 1 car. The supercar is predominantly painted in a deep shade of black, contrasting strongly with vibrant orange accents (the famous Papaya Orange, the brand's traditional color). Special graphics are applied with surgical precision to the front hood, lower sides and mirror housings.
The visual identity is complemented by subtle but highly refined details: contrasting pinstripes on the front splitter and rear diffuser, inspired by the brand's historical graphic schemes, as well as the discreet adoption of the font used for the racing numbers of current drivers, Norris and Piastri.
A cabin dedicated to collectors
Inside, McLaren has opted for discreet exclusivity over radical reconfiguration. The central element attesting to this model's rarity is a dedicated metal plaque, finished in a custom shade of metallic orange, bearing the symbolic "1000GP" branding.
“Race and road cars have always been shaped by the same mindset at McLaren, and the new Artura 1000GP by MSO celebrates this shared foundation,” said Nick Collins, McLaren Group CEO. “It is a testament to a legacy built on collective ambition and engineering excellence, offering our customers a meaningful connection to the MCL40 car at a defining moment.”
Blazing performance under the hood
From a technical point of view, McLaren considered that the current supercar platform already offers performance worthy of the world of Formula 1, which is why no changes were made to the powertrain.
Under the hood of the Artura 1000GP we find the latest generation hybrid technology: a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine working in tandem with a compact electric motor. Together, the system develops a total power of 700 horsepower and a maximum torque of 720 Nm. The resources are managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission, propelling the car with remarkable ferocity:
- 0 - 100 km/h: 3.0 seconds
- 0 - 200 km/h: 8.4 seconds
- Top speed: 330 km/h (electronically limited)
Thanks to its Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) architecture, Artura can run fully electric for quiet urban travel, while unleashing its full arsenal of performance on circuits or winding roads.
Absolute exclusivity. How much will the McLaren Artura 1000GP cost?
The new special edition will be one of the rarest road appearances in the brand’s recent history, with just 10 examples to be produced worldwide. Each unit will be a historic collector’s item, reflecting the team’s 10 Constructors’ titles and over 200 victories since its debut in 1966 (also in Monaco, with the legendary Bruce McLaren at the wheel of an M2B).
Although McLaren Automotive has not publicly announced the official price of this edition (it is only revealed to selected customers who have received an invitation to purchase), we can make an estimate considering the current market.
In Europe, a standard McLaren Artura has a starting price of around 230,000 – 240,000 euros. Taking into account the extreme rarity (only 10 units globally), the symbolic value of the event and the complex craftsmanship carried out by hand by the MSO division, it is estimated that the price of the new McLaren Artura 1000GP will easily exceed the threshold of 320,000 – 350,000 euros. For the brand’s elite collectors, however, this cost represents the entrance ticket to an ultra-exclusive club celebrating six decades of motorsport glory.
