Cupra breaks record after record in 2026. Over 170.000 cars sold and profit of over 200%

Cupra continues its triumphant march: Record sales and booming profits in the first half of 2026

The Spanish performance brand within the Volkswagen Group has marked the best first half of its history, exceeding the threshold of 170,000 cars sold. While its older brother Seat records a slight decrease, Cupra consolidates its position as the company's financial engine and attracts a growing number of customers, including on the Romanian market.

Historical results on the line: Over 170,000 cars delivered

The first six months of 2026 brought further confirmation of Cupra's commercial success. The Martorell-based manufacturer sold 170,100 new cars globally, an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period in 2025.

These figures lay the foundation for what is set to be the best financial year in the brand's history, after last year it set a record of 328,800 vehicles delivered.

Cupra financial picture in H1 2026:

  • Total sales: 170,100 units (+1.3%)
  • Sales revenue: 7.7 billion euros (+1.3%)
  • Operating profit: 122 million euros (+222% compared to H1 2025)

The spectacular jump in operating profit demonstrates that the brand's strategy of selling models with higher added value and higher profit margins is paying off particularly well.

The balance of power in the Spanish consortium: Cupra vs. Seat

Cupra's accelerated pace of development contrasts with that of its parent brand, Seat. In the first half of this year, Seat delivered 129,600 cars, a 4% drop compared to the first six months of 2025.

Combined, the two brands delivered almost 300,000 cars this semester. The change of leadership is increasingly visible: Cupra has become the main growth vector and profitability pillar of the Spanish entity.

Brand / Indicator H1 2026 Deliveries Change vs H1 2025
Cupra 170,100 units +1.3%
Seat 129,600 units -4.0%
Total Company ~300,000 units Slight decrease

How is Cupra doing on the Romanian market?

Locally, Cupra continues its expansion in a Romanian automotive market in full reconfiguration. The brand's success in Romania is based on three main pillars:

  1. The appeal of the Formentor: The sporty crossover remains the absolute star of the range. With powertrain options ranging from affordable mild-hybrid engines to plug-in hybrid versions or high-performance options, the Formentor satisfies the tastes of those looking for aggressive design and versatility.
  2. Development of the dedicated network: CUPRA Garage-type concepts (such as the dedicated space in Bucharest), along with the national network integrated under the Porsche Romania umbrella, have brought added exclusivity to the brand, attracting a younger and technology-oriented audience.
  3. Electrified offensive: With an increasingly diversified range — from the Born electric compact model and the Tavascan crossover, to new launches such as the Terramar SUV —, Cupra is capitalizing on the increased interest of Romanian customers in vehicles with low emissions and state-of-the-art technology.

Outlook for the second half of the year

With solid revenues and a refreshed portfolio, Cupra is in an optimal position to break a new annual record at the end of 2026. For customers in Romania, the combination of a striking design language, electrified options and volume-to-premium positioning keeps the Spanish brand at the top of preferences in the sports car segment.
