The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 2027 has been launched. V8 mild-hybrid engine, rose-gold accents and extreme luxury

Mercedes-Maybach GLS 2027. The definition of opulence gets rose-gold accents, a mild-hybrid V8 and artificial intelligence

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 2027, a flagship that once again raises the bar for refinement and comfort in the ultra-luxury SUV segment. In a year with a huge symbolic load — marking 140 years since the invention of the automobile and 105 years of the Maybach brand —, the new GLS faithfully transposes the maxim of founder Wilhelm Maybach: “to create the best of the best.”

The update brings spectacular visuals, a cabin transformed into a sanctuary of relaxation, AI-powered technology and an optimized V8 powertrain.

Exterior Design: Royal elegance and jewel details

The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS immediately stands out with an even more imposing presence on the road. The front has been completely redesigned around the Maybach-specific radiator grille, which now features an illuminated surround and, for the first time in the GLS, the subtly illuminated MAYBACH lettering in the grille frame.

Among the most spectacular exterior details are:

  • Rose-gold accents in the headlights: The optical blocks integrate sophisticated details in rose-gold shades, the Maybach emblem and ambient lighting that adorns the elegant front end.
  • 23-inch forged wheels with floating star: The wheel center cap features a precision bearing mechanism that keeps the Mercedes-Benz star always in an upright position while driving, functioning similarly to a compass.
  • Illuminated electric sills: When the doors are opened, the anodized aluminum sills extend in less than a second, offering integrated LED lighting and the projection of the Maybach model onto the asphalt.
  • Rear light signature: The redesigned tailgate unites the taillights through an elegant panel, and the rear light units integrate 3D star motifs framed in chrome.

For extreme personalization, the color palette expands with shades such as Dark Petrol, MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red and the exclusive two-tone combination Dark Petrol / Verde Silver. The optional Night Series package also brings a more sinister approach with dark chrome elements and special 23-inch wheels.

The cockpit: Acoustic sanctuary, calf massage and digital realm

Inside, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS combines traditional craftsmanship with the most advanced digital technologies.

MANUFAKTUR exclusive: The leather headliner, made in the Sindelfingen workshop, is the largest individually upholstered component. Each headliner is assembled and sewn end-to-end by a single craftsman from up to 20 precisely cut leather sections.

Major interior updates:

  1. MBUX Superscreen with rose gold digits: The digital dials of the main display adopt rose gold hues that mimic the reflections of gold jewelry. The illuminated air vents have a sculptural “gondola” design.
  2. Electric air filtration: The system refreshes and purifies the air in the cabin every 90 seconds, ionizing fine dust particles.
  3. Spa treatment for all passengers: The front seats receive a new vibration massage in the seat, while the Executive rear seats introduce a dedicated calf massage function for the first time.
  4. First-class lounge: Between the rear seats is a dedicated refrigerated compartment (which can accommodate two 0.75 l bottles of champagne) and premium walnut or silver-threaded fabric trim.
  5. Soundproofing taken to the extreme: Engine and road noise are insulated by acoustic foam in the body cavities, a heavy sound-absorbing carpet on the engine cover and sound insulation on the transmission tunnel.
  6. Burmester 3D Sound with Dolby Atmos: The audio system reaches 15 speakers and a total output of 710 W, including two additional surround speakers installed in the rear ceiling.

Under the hood: Next-generation V8 Mild-Hybrid

The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS is powered by the latest evolution of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine (M177 EVO), assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system with integrated starter-generator (ISG 2.0).

Technical Specification Value / Detail
Powertrain V8 Twin-Turbo + ISG 2.0 (48V Mild-Hybrid)
ICE Power Output 450 kW (612 hp)
Electric Boost (ISG) +17 kW (~23 hp)
Peak Torque 850 Nm
Added Refinement Two Lanchester balance shafts for vibration reduction
Dedicated Drive Mode MAYBACH mode (settings optimized exclusively for ride and suspension comfort)

The powertrain offers instant torque delivery, seamless engine restarts in start-stop mode and the ability to coast (temporarily disconnecting the engine at cruising speeds) for maximum efficiency.

Intelligent Chassis: Cloud-Connected Predictive Suspension

The running system has been completely reconfigured to eliminate any discomfort while riding:

  • AIRMATIC with cloud-based predictive damping: Using Car-to-X data transmitted in real time from other Mercedes-Benz vehicles in traffic, the air suspension reads road irregularities before the car reaches them and adapts the firmness of the shock absorbers in advance.
  • E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL (Optional): A 48V electro-hydraulic system capable of analysing road conditions 1,000 times per second. In CURVE mode, the car leans into bends by up to 3 degrees to cancel out lateral forces felt by passengers. For difficult off-road situations, the “rocking” mode rhythmically inflates and deflates the suspension to free the car from deep sand or mud.

Artificial Intelligence and Urban Assisted Driving

The new MB.OS operating system runs on a water-cooled supercomputer capable of 254 billion operations per second (254 TOPS), processing data from 10 external cameras, 5 radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

  • AI-powered MBUX Assistant: The voice assistant integrates generative artificial intelligence models (such as Google Gemini and ChatGPT), being able to carry out fluid and contextual conversations.
  • MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO (Level 2): Enables assisted point-to-point navigation on busy city streets. The system takes control of acceleration, braking and steering, requiring only a light touch of the steering wheel from the driver.
  • MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST: Parks autonomously, even in diagonal or unmarked spaces, and includes a new kerbside protection function. In addition, the assisted reversing function can reverse the car exactly the last 150 meters.

Market availability and estimated price

Orders for the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 2027 have already been opened in the Chinese market, while customers in Europe and the United States will be able to place the first orders starting at the end of July 2026.

Estimated price. Although the official detailed price list for each country will be communicated once the order catalogs are opened, it is estimated that the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS will have a starting price on the European market of around 200,000 – 210,000 euros (VAT included) for the basic version. For comparison, the previous model started in Romania from approximately 182,000 – 185,000 euros in the standard version. However, at such a level of opulence, few examples leave the factory without additional equipment. Once the options in the extended MANUFAKTUR package (such as the leather roof sewn by a single craftsman) or the Night Series dark-tone trim package are checked, the final price of a top-of-the-line configuration can quickly exceed the threshold of 250,000 – 280,000 euros.

Availability on the Romanian market. The new flagship will be available to order in Romania through the official network of authorized Mercedes-Benz partners (such as Țiriac Auto, Autoklass, Casa Auto, etc.).

  • Opening of orders in Romania: End of July / beginning of August 2026.
  • First local deliveries: The first units ordered in Romania are expected to reach customers at the end of the last quarter of 2026 or at the latest in the first months of 2027.

Thus, customers in Romania will be able to access the official configurator starting this summer, having the opportunity to customize their ultra-luxury SUV exactly to their own requirements before the end of the year.
