From sketch to prototype in 405 days: Audi Nuvolari redefines the limits of German performance
In the modern automotive industry, the development of a completely new supercar typically takes between four and six years. However, German manufacturer Audi has redefined production times, achieving an astonishing engineering feat: it took just 405 days to turn the first sketches on the drawing board into a fully functional prototype ready for the track. The result is the Audi Nuvolari — the most powerful and fastest production model in the entire history of the Ingolstadt brand.
Officially presented on June 4, 2026, first at an exclusive private event and then in the spotlight at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, the new model marks a historic milestone: it is the first vehicle to fully adopt the German brand's new aesthetic and technological language.
Drastic tests on legendary circuits and the involvement of Formula 1 drivers
The spectacular shortening of the development period was possible thanks to the establishment of an autonomous team, in which engineers specialized in design, technology, aerodynamics and propulsion systems worked side by side, eliminating the usual bureaucratic barriers.
The design work was complemented by intense extreme testing sessions around the globe. Prototypes braved the harsh Arctic conditions near the Arctic Circle to validate the battery and electrical systems' resistance to the bitter cold, while fine-tuning of the suspension took place on the demanding roads of southern Spain.
Validation of extreme speed performance was carried out on two reference tracks:
- Nardò Oval (Italy): Where the new Nuvolari was pushed to the limit by Gabriel Bortoleto, driver of the Audi Revolut F1 team.
- Audi test track in Neustadt an der Donau (Germany): Where Nico Hülkenberg, Bortoleto's colleague from the Grand Circus, was behind the wheel of the prototype to fine-tune the handling at high speeds.
1.001 HP hybrid architecture and hypercar performance
Underneath the aerodynamically sculpted bodywork lies a state-of-the-art hybrid powertrain. At the heart of the car is a centrally located 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine capable of reaching dizzying speeds, assisted by three high-performance electric motors (two mounted on the front axle and one integrated into the dual-clutch transmission).
The hybrid assembly delivers impressive figures:
- Maximum power: 1,001 horsepower
- Acceleration 0-100 km/h: 2.6 seconds
- Acceleration 0-200 km/h: 6.8 seconds
- Top speed: Over 350 km/h
The intelligent electronically controlled all-wheel drive instantly distributes torque to each wheel, ensuring exceptional cornering grip. The structure is built on a monocoque made of carbon fiber and lightweight aluminum alloys, reducing the overall weight to an optimal level for an electrified vehicle.
The new design language and a tribute to a legend
The model's name is a homage to the legendary Italian driver Tazio Nuvolari, who made history at the wheel of Auto Union cars in the 1930s.
Aesthetically, the supercar opens a new visual era for the German brand:
- Purist and massive lines: Ditching unnecessary decorative elements in favor of monolithic surfaces and low and wide proportions.
- New light signature: Slim optical blocks with LED matrix that reinterpret the brand's visual identity.
- Integrated active aerodynamics: Adaptive rear spoiler and massive air vents designed to generate downforce at high speeds without affecting drag coefficient.
- Pilot-focused interior: A minimalist cockpit where excessive screens are replaced by physical controls made of massive machined aluminum, visible carbon fiber and Alcantara upholstery.
Price and availability for the Romanian market
The Audi Nuvolari will be an exclusive model, produced in a strictly limited series of just 499 units worldwide. The first official customer deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2027.
The estimated starting price at European level is around 500,000 euros before taxes. For the Romanian market, taking into account the 19% VAT, homologation fees and specific options from the Audi Exclusive personalization program, the final price will most likely be between 580,000 and 620,000 euros.
The quota allocated to the Romanian market will be extremely limited — most likely 1 or 2 copies intended for private collectors, allocated by direct invitation from the manufacturer's VIP department.
