Changan Deepal S05 PHEV 2027, estimated prices in Romania, technical specifications and autonomy
The wave of expansion of Chinese manufacturers in the European car market is gaining new proportions with the entry of a heavyweight name from the Asian industry. Changan Group marked an important moment with the official launch of the new Deepal S05 PHEV, a compact SUV equipped with a plug-in hybrid propulsion system, designed to attract European customers with advanced technology, high efficiency and a futuristic design.
Modern design and a fully digitalized interior
The new model adopts a clean and minimalist visual philosophy, adapted to current preferences in the electrified vehicle segment.
- Exterior aesthetics: The front is distinguished by a sharp line and LED optical blocks divided into two levels. The daytime running lights are positioned at the upper edge of the hood, while the main headlights are discreetly integrated into the bumper. At the rear, the taillights are joined by an LED light strip, complemented by an illuminated logo.
- Minimalist interior: The cabin almost completely dispenses with physical buttons, the control center being dominated by a central touchscreen with a diagonal of 15.4 inches, which benefits from a unique rotation function. An unconventional detail is the absence of a classic dashboard; the speed and essential information are displayed directly in an upper corner of the central screen, depending on the orientation of the steering wheel.
Technical performance: 258 horsepower plug-in system and extended range
Underneath the compact body, the Deepal S05 PHEV relies on a high-performance mechanical assembly, optimized for efficiency in urban environments and on long journeys.
- Powertrain: Under the hood is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, paired with an electric motor, the assembly developing a total power of 258 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 Nm.
- Battery and range: Equipped with an 18.4 kWh battery, the SUV offers a purely electric range of 100 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The total combined range reaches an impressive 1,043 kilometers.
- Charging capacity: The system supports fast charging at a power of up to 55 kW, allowing the battery level to be restored from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes.
Who is Changan, the auto giant behind the Deepal brand?
Changan Automobile is one of the oldest and most important automakers in China, part of the prestigious group of the four largest state-owned automakers in this country (along with SAIC, FAW and Dongfeng).
- Tradition and partnerships: With a history of over a century in the industry (rooted in military production since the mid-19th century and automotive production since the 1980s), Changan has accumulated extensive experience through the successful joint ventures it has operated over the decades alongside international giants such as Ford, Mazda or the PSA group.
- The rise of the Deepal brand: To cope with the global transition to green mobility, Changan created the Deepal division (also known as Shenlan in the domestic market), a brand dedicated exclusively to new-generation electric vehicles and advanced hybrids, positioned in the high-tech segment.
Availability and estimated prices for the Romanian market
The European launch of the new model initially targets mature Western markets, but the manufacturer's strategy foresees the gradual expansion of the distribution network throughout the region.
- European Market: The model was initially introduced in markets such as the UK, Spain and Germany. In the UK market, the new Changan Deepal S05 PHEV has a starting price set at £32,990.
- Outlook for Romania: Taking into account import taxes, logistics costs and the price level of Chinese competition in Central and Eastern Europe, an estimated price for the Romanian market could be in the range of 33,000 to 37,000 euros (VAT included). If included in the network of authorized dealers that are starting to take over Asian brands in the country, the Deepal S05 PHEV could debut on the Romanian market next year, representing an interesting alternative in the compact electrified SUV segment.
