Legend reinvented: Audi officially presents the new A2 e-tron, the most efficient model in the brand's history

After a 21-year hiatus, one of the most iconic names in the history of the Ingolstadt manufacturer is making a comeback. The Audi A2 is officially returning to the German lineup in the form of the new A2 e-tron, a fully electric model that becomes the new gateway to the brand's EV universe. Designed to combine a compact footprint with generous interior space, the new A2 e-tron also sets an absolute record for the German brand: it is the most efficient car ever produced by Audi.

Originally launched in the early 2000s as a demonstration of engineering and aerodynamics, the A2 has built a reputation as a pioneer. In its new interpretation, the new Audi A2 e-tron retains the visionary vein of its predecessor, fully adapting it to the requirements of modern electric mobility. Manufactured at the main plant in Ingolstadt, the subcompact model redefines the standards of the affordable premium segment, relying on extreme efficiency, digital technologies derived from higher classes and an intelligent spatial architecture.

Exterior design: Top aerodynamics and futuristic details

The design of the new Audi A2 e-tron is shaped by the laws of aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of just 0.24 Cd, the model has the best drag coefficient in the Audi compact range. The proportions are defined by a short overhang, a generous wheelbase of 2.77 meters and a roof whose flowing arc ends in a rear spoiler positioned on the rear window — a clear homage to the first generation A2.

The front is marked by the black panel grille, in which the assistance system sensors and the main headlights are discreetly integrated. Above these, the extremely slim daytime running lights shine. At the rear, the continuous strip of LED lights emphasises the vehicle's width.

Exterior innovations include fully electric door handles. They operate at the slightest touch using intelligent sensors and are integrated into the bodywork for a clean aerodynamic surface. A dedicated energy storage system in the doors guarantees that they will open even in the event of a total power failure in the car's electrical system.

The new A2 e-tron is offered in two distinct exterior lines:

  1. The basic version: focuses on a clean, discreet look, offering attractive shades such as Horizon blue, Arrow grey and the new Pistachio green color.
  2. S line package: adds an accentuated sporty touch with aggressive bumpers, sills and window frames in High-gloss black, an aerodynamic rear diffuser and special colors such as Intense blue, Daytona grey or a contrasting Mythos black roof.

The range of wheels includes aerodynamic options ranging from 18 to 20 inches, fitted with tires ranging from 225 to 235 mm wide. The optimal configuration for maximum efficiency is the 19-inch wheels, specially designed to minimize rolling resistance.

Interior design: Generous space, sustainable materials and smart solutions

The interior of the new A2 e-tron brings the atmosphere and refinement of the upper segments to the compact class. The centerpiece of the cabin is the Softwrap concept — a soft textile surface that covers the dashboard and extends fluidly onto the door panels. Touch buttons inspired by designer furniture and the elimination of mechanical handles create an airy atmosphere.

The feeling of space is enhanced by the 1.6 square meter panoramic glass roof, treated with a special coating against UV rays and excessive heat. Everyday practicality is supported by impressive storage spaces: the front doors can accommodate 1.25 liter bottles, and the center console receives 1.5 liter containers, totaling a storage volume for drinks of up to 4 liters.

Moving the gear selector to the steering column freed up space on the center console for a Qi 2.2 wireless fast charging station. It features active cooling, strong mounting magnets, and allows simultaneous charging of two smartphones with up to 25W (up to 70% faster than conventional 5W chargers).

An absolute first in the premium segment is the integration of the Fidlock magnetic fastening system, which allows for quick and secure attachment of dedicated accessories directly to the anchor points in the cabin and trunk.

Engines: Batteries, performance, range and fast charging

The new Audi A2 e-tron is built on a flexible architecture, offering 4 drive options and 3 battery capacities (gross values):

Engine Version Power / Torque Acceleration (0-100 km/h) Gross Battery Capacity WLTP Range
A2 e-tron (170 HP) 170 HP / 350 Nm 8.8 seconds 52 kWh LFP 423 km
A2 e-tron (190 HP) 190 HP / 350 Nm 7.9 seconds 61 kWh LFP 515 km
A2 e-tron (231 HP) 231 HP / 350 Nm 7.0 seconds 84 kWh NMC 646 km
A2 e-tron (326 HP) 326 HP / 545 Nm 5.7 seconds 84 kWh NMC 630 km

The most efficient Audi in history

The 190 hp version combined with the 61 kWh battery achieves an average energy consumption of just 12.8 kWh/100 km. This value makes the A2 e-tron the most efficient series model in the entire history of the Audi brand.
Charging and driving dynamics

  • Fast charging (DC): The charging power varies between 100 kW and 183 kW depending on the battery. The standard 10% - 80% charging cycle takes between 24 and 29 minutes. In addition, the car offers bidirectional charging functionality (V2L / V2H).
  • Driving modes: The driver can choose between 4 profiles (Comfort, Balanced, Efficiency, Dynamic) and 4 energy recovery levels, including mode B dedicated to one-pedal driving.
  • Chassis: Two suspension settings are available (Comfort or Sport), along with optional progressive mechanical steering.

Trunk volume and practicality
