The first Range Rover Electric has just been revealed. Full details on range, availability and price in Romania

Land Rover Officially Reveals New 2027 Range Rover Electric

A new era for the legendary British SUV – unprecedented performance, absolute silence and legendary off-road capabilities in a 100% electric package.

SOLIHULL, United Kingdom — After years of anticipation, testing in extreme conditions and more than 300 patents filed, Land Rover has marked a historic milestone: the official presentation of the new Range Rover Electric 2027. The first all-electric version in the 56-year history of the famous luxury SUV brings more torque than any other Range Rover ever created, an 800-volt architecture, ultra-fast recharging at 350 kW and a range of up to 535 km (333 miles according to EPA standards).

A Historical Revolution Born in Solihull

Built at the historic Solihull plant – home of the Range Rover brand since 1970 – the new electric model is a central pillar of JLR’s electrification strategy. To prepare for this massive transition, the company has reconfigured production lines and retrained more than 9,000 employees in Solihull, along with a further 1,500 specialists across the West Midlands.

The new Range Rover Electric retains the flowing, timeless lines and majestic proportions of the fifth generation. The vehicle is offered in both standard wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB) versions, along with extensive personalization options. The integration of the electric powertrain has been achieved on the flexible MLA-Flex architecture, designed from the design phase to accommodate the batteries and electric motors without compromise.

“Electric propulsion enhances the core characteristics of the Range Rover brand: effortless performance, timeless luxury and unrivalled all-terrain capability, all wrapped in absolute cabin silence.”

Engines and Performance: Record Torque and Supercar Acceleration

Under the body, the launch version (called EV550) integrates two synchronous electric motors with permanent magnets of 260 kW each, one located on each axle to ensure ultra-precise permanent all-wheel drive.

Key figures of the propulsion system:

  • Total power: 542 hp (405 kW)
  • Maximum torque: 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) — the highest torque in Range Rover history, surpassing the 4.4-litre Twin-Turbo V8 engine (+100 Nm) and the Plug-in Hybrid version.
  • SiC Technology: The inverter uses silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, enabling microsecond switching speeds and increased energy efficiency. The motors produce 20% more torque than competing units of the same size.

Dynamic performance:

  • 0-100 km/h: in just 4.3 seconds.
  • 80-120 km/h acceleration: 2.7 seconds, guaranteeing extremely fast and safe overtaking.
  • Top speed: electronically limited to 200 km/h to optimize consumption.

118.5 kWh Battery, 800V Architecture and 350 kW Charging

The basis of the energy system is a "double-stack" lithium-ion battery with a useful capacity of 118.5 kWh, consisting of 344 high-density prismatic cells.

  • Range: Up to 535 km (333 miles EPA cycle), allowing most customers to complete their daily commute without the need for frequent recharging.
  • 800V architecture and 350 kW DC charging: At an ultra-fast charging station, the battery charges from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. A charging session of just 10 minutes adds 200 km (125 miles) of range.
  • Thermal efficiency through ThermAssist™: The innovative thermal management system reduces heating energy consumption by 40% and provides up to 40 km (25 miles) of additional range in extreme winter conditions.
  • NACS Connectivity: In North America, the vehicle comes natively equipped with a NACS port for direct access to the Tesla Supercharger network.

Innovative Off-Road Technologies and Maneuverability

The switch to electric power amplifies the Range Rover's already legendary off-road capabilities, thanks to the responsiveness of the electronic systems:

  1. Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD): Distributes torque to the rear axle from 0% to 100% to instantly prevent loss of traction.
  2. Integrated Traction Management (ITM): Adjusts the speed of the motors in just 50 milliseconds, managing slippage up to 100 times faster than an equivalent system with a combustion engine.
  3. Single Pedal Mode for Off-Road: Allows for smooth start-up and climb on slopes up to 33 degrees (the equivalent of an extremely steep ski slope) and continuous climbs on inclines up to 45 degrees.

Tested in Extreme Conditions and Digital Digital Services

The Range Rover Electric has completed over 1.45 million kilometres (900,000 miles) and over 250,000 hours of physical and virtual testing. Prototypes have been subjected to temperatures as low as -40°C in Arjeplog (Sweden), scorching heat of over +50°C in the Dubai desert and the challenging trails of Eastnor Castle (UK).

  • Battery protection: The high-strength aluminum housing has been tested to withstand intense multi-axial vibration and shock at temperatures between -40°C and +90°C.
  • Battery Digital Twin: The digital system monitors over 900 diagnostic data points in real time, enabling proactive maintenance through Software Over the Air (SOTA) updates.
  • Warranty: The powertrain and battery are covered by an official 8-year or 160,000 km (100,000 miles) warranty.
