Kia releases first official images of PV7, new modular electric van prepares for world debut
South Korean automaker Kia continues to accelerate the expansion of its new zero-emission commercial vehicle division. After taking the first step into this segment with the PV5 model, Kia has revealed the first official images of the second member of the family: the new Kia PV7.
The concept behind this line is called PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) — a philosophy whereby the vehicle is no longer just a simple means of transportation, but an adaptable and modular workspace.
E-GMP.S technology and extreme modularity
The new Kia PV7 is the largest model developed by the South Korean brand in this range of commercial vehicles. It is based on the dedicated E-GMP.S (Electric Global Modular Platform - Specialized) architecture, an adapted version of the platform used by passenger models in the EV range (such as the EV6 and EV9).
The main anticipated features of the new model include:
- Versatility through modular bodywork: Thanks to "Life Modules" technology, a single chassis can be configured according to fleet needs — from closed van for cargo and passenger/shuttle, to chassis-cab options for special bodywork.
- Extended capacity: With an estimated length of over 5.2 meters and a generous wheelbase of 3.39 meters, the PV7 will offer the largest loading capacity in the Kia PBV range, supporting a payload of up to 1,300 kg.
- Fast charging architecture: It is estimated to use a large battery (up to 103 kWh), associated with a high-voltage electrical system (800V) capable of allowing a recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes at ultra-fast DC stations.
Although the teaser images only offer a glimpse of the vehicle's futuristic silhouette and light signature, all full technical details will be officially unveiled on September 14, when the Kia PV7 will make its world premiere at a dedicated event.
Availability and estimated prices for the Romanian market
After the official unveiling in September, the commercial launch of the new Kia PV7 on the European market is estimated for the first half of 2027, closely following the debut of its younger sibling, the PV5.
In terms of costs on the Romanian market, the Kia PV7 will position itself in the medium-large electric utility segment:

In the Romanian market, purchasing through government support programs for clean commercial vehicles (such as the Rabla Plus Program for legal entities) will be able to reduce the final purchase price of fleets by several thousand euros. Also, the traditional Kia warranty applied to the battery and powertrain (usually 7 years or 150,000 km) will be an important factor in reducing total operating costs.
Direct competition: A close fight in the e-LCV segment
The electric commercial vehicle segment in Europe has become extremely dynamic, and the Kia PV7 will enter into direct competition with models already established on the market:
- Ford E-Transit & E-Transit Custom: The traditional market leader in the European utility segment, supported by an extensive digital fleet management ecosystem.
- Stellantis Group (Peugeot e-Expert, Citroën e-Jumpy, Opel Vivaro-e): Offers an extremely diverse range of body styles, multiple battery options and a strong presence in international and local commercial fleets.
- Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo & Crafter Electric: Combines the iconic image and the native electric platform in the case of the ID. Buzz, along with the generous volume offered by the classic electrified range.
- Mercedes-Benz eSprinter: The solution oriented towards the upper market segment, dedicated to companies that rely on premium services and extended autonomy in urban and peri-urban environments.
- Maxus eDeliver 7 / eDeliver 9: The representative of Chinese manufacturers that is rapidly gaining ground in Eastern Europe thanks to the competitive ratio between price, standard features and battery capacity.
Unlike many rivals that adapt existing thermal platforms for electric propulsion, Kia is banking on the advantage of a dedicated native architecture, allowing for optimization of usable space, flat floors, reduced charging times and high operational efficiency for fleets.
