Genesis GV90 is the pinnacle of Korean electric luxury and ushers in a new era for large SUVs
Genesis has officially launched the new GV90, a model that not only completes the South Korean brand’s lineup, but redefines it. The brand’s first full-size three-row SUV, the GV90, enters the market with the ambition to set new standards in design, technology and electric performance.
Based on the Neolun concept presented in 2024, the production model retains the avant-garde spirit of the prototype, offering a luxury package that combines Korean cultural heritage with cutting-edge engineering.
Design inspired by tradition: "Moon Jar"
The GV90’s aesthetic is a statement of elegant minimalism. Genesis has incorporated elements of traditional Korean design, with the proportions and surfaces of the bodywork being directly inspired by the “moon jar” – a traditional ceramic vessel renowned for its round shape and purity of lines.
The front is dominated by the “Two Lines” light signature and new Wing Face Micro Lens Array (MLA) headlights, which flank an imposing G-matrix grille. For a minimalist look, the taillights are discreetly integrated into the bodywork. Customers will have a choice of 16 exterior colors (13 gloss and 3 matte), complemented by spectacular 22- or 24-inch forged wheels.
Neolun Innovation: The Disappearance of the B-pillar
The most striking feature of the top-of-the-line GV90 Neolun is the “Neolun Arch Gate” system. Genesis has eliminated the traditional B-pillar, replacing it with a hidden structure. This design allows for the use of “coach” doors (opposite opening), which open independently. Thanks to a new double-action hinge, the rear doors swing outwards first, avoiding any interference with the front doors, facilitating access to the cabin worthy of a reception hall.
Technologically advanced cabin and absolute comfort
Inside, technology is combined with premium materials: natural wood, authentic stone, cashmere wool and the highest quality leather. The Neolun Executive Suite version offers exceptional features, such as radiantly heated wood veneer flooring, a refrigerator, roll-up sunshades and a "Smart Vision Roof" with six zones of adjustable transparency.
A first for the Hyundai group is the function of electrically rotating the front seats 180 degrees when the vehicle is parked, transforming the cabin into a real social space. In the dashboard, a 23.6-inch OLED screen serves as a multimedia system, rising by 90 mm and expanding to 24.6 inches for viewing content in parked mode. Everything is managed by the "Pleos Connect" system, based on Android Automotive, while a 25-inch head-up display replaces the classic dashboard instruments.
Pure electric performance
The GV90 is built on the all-electric eMP platform. Under the body is an impressive 123.5 kWh battery – the largest ever in the Hyundai Motor Group – which provides an estimated range of approximately 500 kilometers.
The drive system, consisting of two electric motors, develops 666 hp and 800 Nm. Dynamics are ensured by two electronically controlled limited slip differentials (e-LSD), a multi-chamber air suspension and an all-wheel steering system. The rear wheels steer by up to 5 degrees, giving this generously sized SUV a surprisingly small turning circle, comparable to that of a mid-size sedan.
Launching in style: Neolun First Edition
For the launch, Genesis introduces the special edition "Neolun First Edition", which stands out with its two-tone body, chromatically matched 24-inch wheels and exclusive details: Genesis logos embroidered on the sills, headrests and on the "Crystal Sphere Controller" selector.
With the new GV90, Genesis demonstrates that future luxury is not just about opulence, but a fusion of tradition, intuitive technology, and a driving experience that emphasizes passenger comfort and well-being.
Availability and price: Where the new GV90 stands for customers in Romania
The official launch of the new Genesis GV90 globally inevitably raises the question: when and at what cost will this electric "transatlantic" be available on the Romanian market? Although Genesis has consolidated its presence in key markets in Europe (such as Germany, Switzerland or the United Kingdom), the premium brand of the Hyundai Motor Group is adopting a calculated expansion strategy, and Romania remains, at this time, a market where the purchase will be made mainly through specialized import channels or through the brand's European networks.
Availability: An exclusive presence
Given the size and top-of-the-range positioning of the GV90, it is unlikely that it will be immediately available in local showrooms with direct official representation. Romanian customers who want to be among the first owners of this luxury SUV will most likely have to turn to prestigious importers or purchase the vehicle through Genesis branches in European countries such as Germany.
The first deliveries on the European continent are estimated for early 2027, and in Romania, the vehicle will certainly be an exotic appearance, addressing a niche segment that appreciates cutting-edge technology and the exclusivity of Korean design.
Price estimates: In the league of "heavyweights" in the luxury segment
Although Genesis has not yet published the official price list for Europe, the technological positioning and materials used place the GV90 directly in competition with established models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, BMW iX or the upcoming large electric SUVs from Cadillac or Lucid.
- Base model (GV90): Considering the huge battery capacity (123.5 kWh), the premium standard features and the impressive dimensions, we can expect the starting price in Europe to be around 115,000 – 125,000 euros.
- GV90 Neolun version (Executive Suite): This variant, which integrates the "Arch Gate" system, radiant floor heating and extreme comfort features, will certainly increase the price significantly. We estimate an entry threshold for this configuration around 150,000 - 160,000 euros.
- GV90 Neolun First Edition: Being a launch edition, with unique features and specific customizations, the final price for a "full options" equipped model could exceed the 180,000 euro threshold, placing the new Genesis in the ultra-luxury area of electric SUVs.
For the Romanian buyer, these purchase amounts will be supplemented by the logistical costs of transport and registration related to the individual import, if the model is not officially introduced into the local importer's portfolio. However, for an SUV that promises to redefine the "salon on wheels" experience, the GV90 promises to be an investment not only in transportation, but in a design and technology statement rarely seen on the country's roads.
