VW ID.3 Neo has arrived in Romania: Starting at 34.155 euros, first deliveries in August

The "Neo" revolution at Volkswagen: The new ID.3 officially debuts in Romania. Physical buttons and record autonomy for the electric compact

BUCHAREST – Volkswagen is stepping on the accelerator pedal on the electric vehicle market in Romania, officially opening order lists for the new ID.3 Neo. The second facelift of the pioneer of the ID range promises to correct the main criticisms of its predecessors, bringing a more mature aesthetic and, perhaps most importantly, a return to classic ergonomics in the interior.

With a starting price of 34,155 euros (VAT included), the new model is strategically positioned to recapture the compact segment, relying on a combination of energy efficiency and cutting-edge technology.

Revised design and "goodbye" to problematic touch buttons

On the outside, the ID.3 Neo adopts a more aggressive and aerodynamic front end, eliminating the visual elements that gave the previous model a too “playful” look. But the real revolution is in the cabin. After customers heavily criticized the touch surfaces on the steering wheel and the non-illuminated sliders, Volkswagen is taking a step back towards functionality: the new ID.3 Neo introduces physical buttons and a massive 12.9-inch multimedia screen with much faster and more intuitive software.

The interior materials have also been improved, with the German manufacturer placing greater emphasis on sustainability and a premium tactile perception, superior to the first generation.

Three batteries, three power levels: Range of up to 628 km

The technical offer for Romania is unexpectedly diverse, covering both urban and long-distance needs. Customers can choose between three engine variants (170 HP, 190 HP and 231 HP) and three battery capacities.

  • Base version (50 kWh): Offers a range of 416 km (WLTP), making it ideal for daily commuting and intensive urban use.
  • Intermediate variant (58 kWh): Increases range to 492 km, being a balance between price and performance.
  • Top of the range (79 kWh): Propels the ID.3 Neo into the long-distance league, with a declared range of 628 kilometers, a benchmark for the compact class.

Equipment and Prices: From Trend to Style

Volkswagen has structured the offer into three well-defined equipment levels:

  1. Trend (from €34,155): Although it is the entry-level variant, it comes surprisingly well-equipped, including LED headlights, digital instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and adaptive cruise control.
  2. Life (from €36,456): Adds essential comfort features such as a reversing camera, dual-zone climate control and 18-inch alloy wheels.
  3. Style (from €39,813): Represents the complete technology package, offering the famous Matrix LED headlights (IQ Light), heated seats and integrated navigation system.
Trim Level Battery Power Price (€ incl. VAT)
Trend 50 kWh 170 hp 34,155
Life 50 kWh 170 hp 36,456
Life 58 kWh 190 hp 39,256
Life 79 kWh 231 hp 44,533
Style 50 kWh 170 hp 39,813
Style 58 kWh 190 hp 42,613
Style 79 kWh 231 hp 47,891

Market Context: The Struggle for Supremacy

Although the price of 34,155 euros is competitive for a European brand, the ID.3 Neo enters a crowded arena. Its main rival, the MG4 EV Urban, maintains a considerable price advantage (25,410 euros), but relies on a smaller battery and a less refined interior. On the other hand, the new Mini Aceman comes with a much more “lifestyle” approach, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 remains an option for those looking for generous interior space, but at a significantly higher cost.

The first copies of the new Volkswagen ID.3 Neo are expected to arrive in Romanian showrooms in August. Until then, the opening of orders marks a decisive moment for the German brand, which seems to have learned from the mistakes of the past, now offering a more mature, more ergonomic product and capable of traveling considerable distances without emotions related to the charging infrastructure.
