The new electric Mercedes-Benz GLB: range of up to 630 km and the future of compact SUVs
Mercedes-Benz GLB 2027: The Electrifying Birth of a Super-Digitalized Family SUV
Mercedes-Benz has pulled back the curtain on the new generation of the GLB compact SUV, a model that is not just an evolution, but a revolution, taking over from the EQB and fully integrating into the brand's new electric era. The new Mercedes-Benz GLB 2027 retains the successful recipe for versatility (with the option of 7 seats), but adds an 800-volt electrical architecture, extended autonomy and a fully digitalized cabin powered by Artificial Intelligence.
Refreshed Design and Stellar Details
While retaining its distinctive, robust and functionally-oriented silhouette, the new GLB adopts the design language seen on the larger CLA and GLC models. The aesthetics are now more aerodynamic, visible through the retractable door handles.
The central design element is undoubtedly the massive front grille, which receives spectacular ambient lighting. The LED headlights integrate a distinctive light signature in the form of the Mercedes-Benz star, connected by a thin LED strip that runs across the front. The same star motif, but on a smaller scale, is also found on the rear lights, designed in the shape of a boomerang and connected by an LED strip.
The new model has grown in size, reaching 4732 mm in length and a wheelbase of 2889 mm, offering significantly improved interior space, especially for second-row passengers, who benefit from more legroom.
Digital Interior: Superscreen and ChatGPT
The most profound revolution takes place inside. The new GLB places a massive emphasis on technology, offering the optional Mercedes Superscreen. This stunning configuration integrates three high-resolution screens across the entire width of the dashboard: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central display and a dedicated 14-inch display for the front passenger.
The infotainment system runs on the latest MBUX operating system, which directly integrates Artificial Intelligence from Microsoft and Google. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz has integrated ChatGPT into the virtual assistant, allowing for much more complex and natural voice interactions.
For a unique ambience, the new GLB can be equipped with the Sky Control panoramic roof, a luxury feature that integrates 154 illuminated “stars”, transforming the roof into a personal starry sky. Versatility is maintained, with customers having the choice between 5- or 7-seat variants.
Electric Performance and Ultra-Fast Charging
The new 2027 GLB debuts with two fully electric versions, both powered by a robust 85 kWh battery:
| Version | Configuration | Power (HP) | Torque (Nm) | 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) | Range (WLTP) |
| GLB 250+ EQ Tech | RWD (Single Motor) | 272 | 335 | 7.4 seconds | 630 km |
| GLB 350 4Matic EQ Tech | AWD (Dual Motor) | 353 | 515 | 5.5 seconds | 614 km |
Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, a first for a compact Mercedes-Benz model, charging times are dramatically reduced. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes at a fast DC charging station, with a peak charging power of up to 320 kW.
Future Vision: Hybrid and Basic EV
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the GLB will also be available in conventional versions. A more affordable, entry-level electric version will be available from 2026, while a mild-hybrid version (GLB 250 4Matic) is expected in 2027. The latter will use a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, assisted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
