Tesla, quarterly sales record and an unexpected performance on the Romanian market in Q2 2026

Historical sales record in Q2 2026 and an unexpected jump on the Romanian market

After a year and a half of turbulence and a noticeable slowdown in the electric vehicle market, the American manufacturer Tesla is coming back with force. In the second quarter of this year (April-June 2026), the company led by Elon Musk set a new absolute quarterly record, delivering 480,126 cars globally. The performance marks a spectacular 25% increase compared to the same period in 2025 and definitively puts an end to speculation about a long-term decline for the brand.

Global recovery: How was the new record reached?

While deliveries reached 480,126 units, global production in Q2 2026 stopped at 451,758 vehicles. This difference shows that Tesla was able to streamline its inventory accumulated in previous quarters, transforming cars from warehouses into actual deliveries to customers.

The evolution was dictated by three major regional dynamics:

  • Europe driving growth: Key European markets provided the fuel for this record, with demand for volume models recording solid progress.
  • Stabilization in the US: The American market has stabilized after the shock of last fall, when the massive elimination of federal subsidies temporarily blocked buyers' appetite.
  • Price war in China: In the world's largest auto market, Tesla has regained ground against local rivals led by BYD, relying on technological updates and aggressive financing strategies.

The phenomenon in Romania: Tesla enters the Top 10 general car brands

If the global figures are impressive, the evolution on the local market is downright surprising. Romania is experiencing a massive explosion in electric car registrations, fueled in part by corporate fleet deliveries and aggressive offers from manufacturers.

According to data recently centralized by the Automobile Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA) for June 2026, the pure electric vehicle (BEV) market in Romania recorded a massive growth of 352% compared to June 2025, reaching 1,494 units put into circulation in a single month.

In this ultra-competitive context, Tesla has achieved a historic first in Romania: it entered the Top 10 car brands overall (taking into account all types of engines, including gasoline and diesel). The American manufacturer ranked 7th, surpassing volume brands with tradition on our market.

Top new car registrations in Romania (June 2026)

Rank Car Brand Registered Units
1 Dacia 2,860
2 Toyota 1,248
3 Skoda 1,244
4 Volkswagen 1,037
5 Renault 964
... ... ...
7 Tesla 658

The engine of local sales: The top of Romanians' preferences is still the Tesla Model 3 (which benefits from the new improved design) and the Tesla Model Y, both models entering the general sales rankings for June, alongside established models such as Dacia Logan or Dacia Duster.

A key component of the company's current success in Romania is its sales strategy. To offset the uncertainties related to the government's Rabla Plus program, the company is offering a "Tesla Bonus" of 3,600 euros during this period (April 1 - September 30, 2026) directly applicable to the configuration of the base and Long Range models for Model 3 and Model Y.

All eyes are now on July 22, 2026, when Tesla will release its full Q2 financial report. That's when we'll find out whether this huge sales volume was accompanied by healthy profit margins or whether it was solely the result of global discounts.
