Geely E2 debuts in Romania: 3 equipment levels, complete ADAS safety package and 70-liter frunk
The Romanian electric vehicle market is welcoming a new major player. Chinese brand Geely is expanding its local portfolio with the official launch of the subcompact E2 model, a 100% electric hatchback designed for urban and extra-urban mobility.
The model's international success precedes its arrival in showrooms in the country: in the first quarter of the year, Geely E2 ranked in the top 3 best-selling zero-emission cars globally, atypically quickly, exceeding the threshold of 800,000 units sold in just 664 days since its global launch.
Technical architecture and performance: Rear-wheel drive and up to 345 km of range
The new Geely E2 is developed on the GEA (Global Energy Architecture) architecture dedicated to electric vehicles. A remarkable technical configuration for the subcompact class is the presence of rear-wheel drive (RWD) combined with a Multi-Link independent suspension on the rear axle, a solution that ensures increased maneuverability and superior ride comfort.
Customers can choose from two engine options and two capacities for the battery with LFP (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) technology:
- Propulsion: 82 HP or 116 HP electric motors.
- 35 kWh battery: Provides a combined range of up to 252 kilometers.
- 47 kWh battery: Provides a combined range of up to 345 kilometers (and an estimated urban range of up to 557 kilometers).
In terms of power, the large battery version supports fast charging at DC stations with powers up to 80 kW, allowing recharging from 30% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.
Exterior design, comfort and interior space
Aesthetically, the Geely E2 adopts a modern line with Full LED headlights equipped with 78 individual light elements and 16-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment.
Inside, the emphasis is on digitalization and usable space:
- Digital instrument panel: 8.8 inch screen.
- Infotainment system: 14.6-inch central touchscreen display.
- Connectivity: Full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
- Practicality: Over 30 interior storage spaces, including a drawer-type glove box and additional compartments under the rear seat.
- Loading capacity: 375-litre rear boot (extendable to 1,320 litres) doubled by a 70-litre frunk (front boot).
Advanced safety equipment and systems (ADAS)
The new model is structured in three trim levels: Pro, Max and Ultra. Even from the entry-level version (Pro), the car comes generously equipped:
- Full LED headlights and 16-inch wheels;
- Automatic air conditioning and eco-leather upholstery;
- Reversing camera and parking sensors;
- Integrated Driver Assistance Package (ADAS).
The active safety package includes automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keeping assist (LKA), blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, obstacle avoidance system and tire pressure monitoring.

Who does it compete with on the Romanian market?
The entry of the Geely E2 into the affordable electric vehicle segment significantly animates the local competition. With its subcompact hatchback dimensions (B class), equipment level and price range (22,000 – 27,000 euros), the Geely E2 enters into direct rivalry with several established or newly launched competitors in Romania:
- Citroën e-C3: One of the most direct European rivals in the electric B segment. With a similar starting price (around 23,300 euros) and a range of approximately 300 km WLTP, the French model offers a higher driving position, but the Geely E2 increases the power (up to 116 HP compared to 113 HP), independent Multi-Link rear suspension and the existence of a front trunk (frunk).
- Dacia Spring: Although it belongs to the A segment (smaller in size) and has a lower starting price, the Dacia Spring remains the reference in the Romanian market for budget electric cars. The Geely E2 targets customers looking for a significantly more spacious, more powerful alternative (82/116 HP compared to 45/65 HP for the Spring) and with a higher level of finishes and technology.
- Renault 5 E-Tech Electric: A competitor with a strong focus on design and brand image. The Renault 5 starts at a slightly higher price threshold for variants with a similar battery, making the Geely E2 a more space-price-equipment option.
- Dongfeng Box & BYD Dolphin: Direct competitors also from top Chinese manufacturers. The Geely E2 tries to differentiate itself in this dispute with its rear-wheel drive architecture, generous package of over 30 storage spaces and native integration of the 14.6-inch multimedia screen.
- Hyundai Inster: A small-class urban crossover that falls into the same budget area, offering an approach focused on modularity, but with slightly smaller exterior dimensions compared to the Geely hatchback.
Through the combination of the dedicated GEA platform, the generous interior space and the rich ADAS safety package offered even from the basic Pro version, the Geely E2 positions itself as an extremely rational option for Romanian buyers who want a fully equipped small family or city electric car.
