Rebirth of a British myth: Morgan unveils spectacular Midsummer Coupé, its first fixed-roof model in 11 years

British car manufacturer Morgan has officially revealed the new Midsummer Coupé, a bodywork masterpiece created in close collaboration with the famous Italian design house Pininfarina. This model marks a historic moment for the Malvern-based brand: it is the first coupe launched by Morgan in more than a decade, and will be produced in an ultra-limited series that redefines the notion of exclusivity.


An 11-year absence: The legacy left by Aero 8

The last time Morgan fans could admire a new coupe model in the manufacturer's range was in 2015. That was when the famous Aero 8 was withdrawn from production, the legendary model that revolutionized the brand's design language, introducing contemporary lines and a modern aesthetic into a range traditionally dominated by a purist retro style.

After an eleven-year absence, the fixed-roof format makes a triumphant return under the name Midsummer Coupé. The new project is not just a simple addition to the portfolio, but represents the culmination of the company's special projects program.


Collaboration with Pininfarina: A dramatic silhouette

The new model is based on the Midsummer Roadster (launched in May 2024 and limited to 50 units), but the design teams in Malvern (UK) and Cambiano (Italy) went much further than simply "closing" the cabin. Pininfarina designers helped create a unique visual identity, inspired by the Italian sports cars of the 1960s.

To mount the new solid roof and improve structural rigidity, the car underwent significant engineering changes:

  • Revolutionary A-pillars: Machined from solid aluminum billet, they efficiently carry roof loads.
  • Structurally bonded windshield and roof: The windows are bonded directly to the aluminum body, helping to distribute loads and reduce structural stress by up to 50%.
  • Drop-window glazing system: Unlike the classic removable screens on other Morgan models, the coupe uses a sleek system with a fixed outer glass section and drop-down inner glass.
  • Hybrid architecture: The aluminum body is hand-shaped (hundreds of hours of work using the English wheel), supported by a structural ash wood frame, which also provides excellent acoustic damping against resonance.

The interior is a monument dedicated to tactile luxury, where teak wood (inspired by marine applications) dominates the cabin, combining with window buttons mounted directly into the ceiling structure and an aluminum gear selector with wooden inserts.


Under the hood: Performances signed by the Bavarian division

Mechanically, the Midsummer Coupé remains true to the Roadster's technical recipe. The car is built on the CXV-generation aluminum-bonded platform and is powered by a 3.0-liter BMW inline-6 ​​engine (B58 twin-scroll turbo) capable of developing 335 horsepower.

While Morgan has yet to reveal official acceleration or top speed figures, engineers point out that the car remains extremely light, weighing just 2.5% more than a Supersport model with a removable hardtop. The power-to-weight ratio promises to be a thrilling experience behind the wheel.


Absolute exclusivity: Only 9 copies and an astronomical price

If you want a Morgan Midsummer Coupé, the chances of seeing it on the road are extremely slim. The British manufacturer will hand-assemble just 9 examples for customers. The official prototype (internally called an "artists' proof") will be sent directly to the famous Louwman Collection in The Hague, Netherlands, to be exhibited publicly as a modern example of coachbuilding.

On the front wings, the car bears the exclusive Pininfarina Fuoriserie (“out of series”) emblem, a distinction awarded only to ultra-rare vehicles created outside conventional production programs.


How much does such a piece of jewelry cost?

Morgan has not announced an official list price, a standard practice for such hyper-exclusive projects where each of the 9 cars will be configured in a one-on-one dialogue with the owner, resulting in completely unique specifications.

However, while the original Midsummer Roadster (produced in 50 units) was estimated by experts to be worth around £120,000-200,000, the considerably rarer (only 9 units) and much more complex in terms of engineering - the Coupé edition - is estimated by industry publications to be worth in excess of £500,000 to £750,000 (over €600,000-900,000), depending on the level of customisation requested by customers. All 9 units have already been sold before the model was presented to the public.
