End of career for McLaren Artura, the V6 hybrid supercar will be replaced by the P34 project
End of career announced after a challenging journey. The career of the McLaren Artura hybrid supercar is coming to an end sooner than initially expected. The British high-performance car manufacturer plans to permanently stop assembling this model in 2028, marking a lifespan of approximately six years on the market.
The Artura model's journey has been marked by major difficulties from the start. Although the official presentation was initially scheduled for 2021, a series of technical complications that arose during the development phase, superimposed on the global disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, postponed its commercial debut until 2022.
Even after deliveries began, the problems were not completely eliminated. The model was targeted by successive service recall campaigns to remedy manufacturing defects, prompting the brand's management to temporarily halt deliveries at one point in order to carry out rigorous quality checks.
Project P34: Hybrid successor scheduled for launch in 2027
The Artura's retirement is part of a broader strategy to renew its electrified supercar range. McLaren is already working on a direct replacement, currently under development under the internal codename P34.
The new exotic supercar will retain the hybrid propulsion architecture, but will benefit from a modernized technological platform, designed to eliminate the shortcomings of the current generation. The official launch of the P34 project is estimated for 2027, and will be produced in parallel with the Artura for several months, before the latter is permanently withdrawn from the assembly line in 2028.
Technical performance: V6 twin-turbo and 680 hp hybrid propulsion
From a technical point of view, the McLaren Artura marked an important milestone for the British manufacturer, being the first production model based on the new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) carbon fiber architecture.
The propulsion assembly includes:
- Engine: 3.0-liter V6 bi-turbo, capable of revving up to 8,500 rpm.
- Electric motor: Integrated into the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission housing.
- Total power: 680 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque.
- Performance: Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 8.3 seconds and a top speed limited to 330 km/h.
Offer and price level on the Romanian market
Although McLaren does not have an official direct sales showroom in Romania, the Artura model can be purchased by local customers through authorized dealers in the European network or through companies specializing in the import of exotic and luxury cars.
- Prices for new models: A new McLaren Artura to order has a starting price of approximately 230,000 - 250,000 euros (excluding VAT). Depending on the customization options offered by the MSO (McLaren Special Operations) division and the choice of body variant (Coupe or Spider), the final price with taxes included frequently exceeds the 300,000 euro threshold.
- Prices on the used/second-hand market: Used models from the 2022–2023 model years, available to order through car sales platforms in Romania, are listed at prices between 170,000 and 210,000 euros, depending on mileage, options and service history.
