In a rapidly changing automotive landscape, 2025 will go down in history as the moment when Ford redefined the electric mobility hierarchy in Romania. With a strategy focused on portfolio diversification and local production, the American manufacturer managed not only to dominate sales, but also to record explosive growth, becoming the new benchmark in the zero-emission segment.

A historic 360% increase

Last year marked a spectacular leap for Ford in the local market. The brand reported sales of 2,132 electric vehicles, a figure that includes both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This performance represents a 360% increase compared to 2024, giving the brand a 15% market share in the overall electric segment.

The success is all the more remarkable as it was achieved in a year in which the overall electricity market encountered logistical challenges and changes in subsidy programs.

"Made in Craiova": Puma Gen-E and the success of SUVs

The heart of this success beat at the Craiova plant. The new Ford Puma Gen-E, the first fully electric model produced entirely in Romania, quickly became one of the most desirable vehicles in the small segment. With over 500 units sold, it ranked second in its class, confirming that the Romanian public appreciates the mix of modern technology and the pride of local production.

In the larger SUV segment, the offensive was led by the Explorer Electric and Capri models. They authoritatively dominated their niche, holding a combined market share of 45%.

Ford Pro: Undisputed leader in the commercial segment

If in the passenger area Ford impressed with design and innovation, in the business area it "matured" the competition. The Ford Pro division achieved performances that are hard to match:

• 43.3% market share in the electric commercial vehicle segment.
• Leader in the one-tonne and two-tonne utility segments with Transit Custom and Transit.
• The Ford Ranger maintained its status as the best-selling pick-up in Romania.
• Transit Courier, also produced in Craiova, recorded 590 units sold, consolidating the efficiency of the Ford fleet.

Hybrid hegemony: Kuga PHEV, in its 5th year of glory

Beyond the 100% electric segment, Ford continues to dominate the Plug-in Hybrid vehicle market. The Ford Kuga PHEV was, for the fifth consecutive year, the best-selling model with this engine in Romania, with over 650 units, offering the ideal transition solution for customers who are not yet ready for a fully electric vehicle.

"The 2025 results confirm that our electrification strategy is working and that Ford is today a benchmark on the Romanian market," said Roxana Capătă, Managing Director at Ford Romania Services.
