BYD expands its range in Romania: Official launch of the Atto 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid model
BYD Offensive: The New Atto 2 DM-i "lands" simultaneously in 11 cities in Romania. Luxury and efficiency from €25,600
REVOLUTION IN THE SUV SEGMENT | Chinese giant BYD is forcing its entry into the domestic market with a lightning launch. The new Atto 2 DM-i, a compact plug-in hybrid SUV that promises to "kill" autonomy anxiety, is officially available nationwide today.
Romania is becoming one of the hot spots on the map of BYD's (Build Your Dreams) European expansion. In a major strategic move, the Chinese manufacturer has chosen to launch the new Atto 2 DM-i model simultaneously in 11 key cities in the country, marking a solid presence in centers such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iași and Brașov.
DM-i Technology: Goodbye, fear of low battery
Unlike its pure electric "brother", the Atto 2 DM-i relies on Super DM (Dual Mode) technology. The heart of the system is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, optimized to work in tandem with the electric propulsion for an efficiency that, on paper, seems detached from the future.
The model is available in two versions, designed to cover both the needs of urban commuting and the appetite for long trips without stops at charging stations:
| Feature | Active Version | Boost Version |
| Total Power | 166 hp | 212 hp |
| Blade Battery | 7.8 kWh | 18.3 kWh |
| Electric Range (WLTP) | 40 km | 90 km |
| Total Range (Combined) | 930 km | 1,000 km |
| 0-100 km/h Acceleration | 8.5 seconds | 7.5 seconds |
| Price (incl. VAT) | €25,600 | €28,000 |
Hi-tech interior and "intelligence" on board
Inside, BYD has made no compromises. The centerpiece is the famous 12.8-inch touchscreen, supported by an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument panel. The multimedia system now integrates the voice assistant based on generative artificial intelligence, activated by the simple command "Hi BYD".
The Boost variant adds premium features: panoramic roof, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, 360° camera and the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, which allows you to power various electrical appliances directly from the car battery - ideal for camping or emergency situations.
"No-Feeling" Guarantee and Availability
To gain the trust of Romanian customers, BYD offers a 6-year warranty for the vehicle and 8 years (or 250,000 km) for the Blade battery and propulsion system. The Blade battery is already renowned in the industry for its structural safety and puncture resistance.
When do we see the car on the streets?
Orders have already been opened through the partner network (such as Țiriac Auto), and the first customers will receive their units in March 2026. With a starting price of under 26,000 euros, the Atto 2 DM-i positions itself as a formidable rival for European hybrid models, offering a hard-to-beat mix of price, technology and space.
