BYD Atto 2 PHEV: up to 1,000 km of combined range at a competitive price
Hybrid SUV from BYD: Atto 2 DM-i offers 90 km electric and 1,000 km combined
Chinese manufacturer BYD, the world leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), surprised the European market with the unveiling of the new Atto 2 DM-i at a special event in Barcelona. This Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) version brings an impressive combined range of up to 1,000 kilometers, setting a new standard in the compact B-segment SUV segment.
The launch comes as a strategic complement to BYD's offering in Europe, where the Atto 2 model (also known as Yuan Plus in other markets) was initially only available in a 100% electric version.
Dual Performance: DM-i Technology and Extended Battery Life
The new Atto 2 DM-i is based on BYD's intelligent hybrid technology (DM-i), which emphasizes electric efficiency. Under the hood, it hides a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.
The model is offered in two equipment variants: Active and Boost.
Active Version
- Power: 166 HP.
- Battery: 7.8 kWh.
- Electric range: Up to 40 km.
- Combined range: Up to 930 km.
- AC charging: 3.3 kW (battery goes from 15 to 100% in 2.7 hours).
Boost version
- Power: 212 HP, allowing it to reach 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds.
- Battery: 18 kWh.
- Electric range: Up to 90 km.
- Combined range: Up to 1,000 km (with full tank and battery).
- AC charging: 6.6 kW (15-100% charge takes 3 hours).
- Special features: This version also includes the 3.3 kW V2L (Vehicle To Load) function, transforming the car into a mobile energy source.
The top version, Boost, is particularly attractive, offering pure electric range sufficient for most daily commutes, combined with full range worthy of a diesel, eliminating the "fear of range" on long journeys.
Design and Features: Subtle Differences
Aesthetically, the PHEV version is subtly different from the electric version. The Atto 2 DM-i gets a slightly larger front grille and is 20 millimeters longer. An exclusive exterior color, Midnight Blue, is available. Full LED headlights and taillights are standard, regardless of the version chosen.
The interior continues BYD's modern and technological theme. Both versions benefit from the 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and the 12.8-inch rotating central display (standard). The front seats and steering wheel have a heating function, but if you want a panoramic roof, it is only available on the Boost trim level.
Estimated Price for Romania
BYD has announced launch prices for the Spanish market, where the new Atto 2 DM-i starts at €28,200 (Active) and €31,200 (Boost). Deliveries in Europe are expected to begin in early 2026.
Although there is no official price for Romania yet, we can make a reasonable estimate, considering the competition's prices and the brand's positioning on the local market.
PRICE ESTIMATION FOR ROMANIA (List Price with VAT, without Rabla Plus/Classic program):
- BYD Atto 2 DM-i Active: ~29,500 Euro
- BYD Atto 2 DM-i Boost: ~32,500 Euro
These prices would position the Atto 2 DM-i as a strong competitor in the PHEV SUV segment, offering superior electric range to many of its rivals, along with exceptional combined range, making it suitable for both daily commuting and long journeys.
