BMW Z4 retires: last special edition, available for a short time
Farewell, Roadster! BMW Z4 ends its career with a "Final Edition"
After more than two decades of delighting outdoor enthusiasts, BMW is preparing to bring the curtain down on the Z4. The third-generation roadster, developed in partnership with Toyota (which also spawned the Supra), will roll off the assembly lines in March 2026.
To mark this moment, the German manufacturer is launching a final special series, suggestively called the BMW Z4 Final Edition, a true "swan song" for a car that has constantly struggled in an increasingly narrow segment.
An Honorable Retirement: Z4 Final Edition
The Final Edition package, available from January 2026 for a limited time, is designed to emphasize the sporty and exclusive character of the roadster.
Availability: The package is offered for all engines, except for the base version, the Z4 sDrive20i, which does not include the M Sport package as standard, increasing the total cost.
Package Price:
- 4,200 euros (for versions that already include M Sport)
- 7,400 euros (for Z4 sDrive20i)
Distinctive Elements:
- Exclusive Color: Matt Frozen Black (customers can still choose any shade from the palette at no additional cost).
- Sport accents: Shadowline exterior trim (glossy black), M Sport brake system with red-painted calipers.
- Premium Interior: Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and contrasting red stitching, adding a touch of exclusivity.
This edition does not bring major mechanical changes, but focuses on aesthetics, celebrating the elegant design and performance of the G29 roadster.
A Declining Segment and the Absence of a Successor
The decision to end production of the Z4, which is being built at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, alongside the Toyota Supra, is a direct consequence of changes in the automotive market. Sales of roadsters and convertibles have fallen dramatically in recent years, making it difficult to justify a low-volume model economically.
- Low Sales: Last year, the Z4 was one of BMW's worst-selling models, which accelerated the decision not to offer a direct successor.
- No Successor: Unlike its partner Toyota, which has already confirmed a sixth-generation Supra, BMW has not announced any plans for a new generation Z. The withdrawal of the Z4, along with the possible elimination of the 8 Series Convertible, will leave a gap in the brand's convertible lineup, leaving only the 4 Series convertible.

Model (Engine) Power (HP) Engine Type Estimated Starting Price (VAT Included)
BMW Z4 sDrive20i 197 HP 2.0L, 4 cylinders, Petrol 50,000 - 52,000 Euros
BMW Z4 sDrive30i 258 HP 2.0L, 4 cylinders, Petrol 57,000 - 60,000 Euros

For fans of the brand, the BMW Z4 Final Edition represents the last chance to purchase a classic roadster with an internal combustion engine and rear-wheel drive, a formula that risks becoming a rarity in the era of electrification.
